The Mouvement des jeunes pour la paix et le développement durable (MOJEPAD) has organized a regional forum in Zinder, which commenced on Tuesday, July 21st. The event is scheduled to run for two days, bringing together participants to discuss various regional issues and challenges pertinent to the youth. This significant gathering shows MOJEPAD's commitment to fostering peace and sustainable development within the community. The forum serves as a key platform for young people to engage directly with pressing concerns, contributing their perspectives and ideas to find actionable solutions for the region's future.

Forum Objectives and Themes

Participants in the forum will debate a range of critical themes. These discussions are centered on 'Youth and Peace', exploring how young individuals can actively contribute to maintaining stability and harmony. The agenda also focuses on promoting social cohesion, aiming to strengthen the fabric of communities by encouraging understanding and mutual respect among different groups. The forum emphasizes strengthening solidarity within communities, fostering a sense of collective responsibility and support among residents.

The discussions also address the urgent need to combat gender-based violence, a widespread issue that significantly impacts the well-being and development of young people. Tackling the consumption of narcotics is another key theme, recognizing its detrimental effects on youth health and societal stability. These are significant concerns for young people in the region, and the forum provides a dedicated space to address them. The agenda further aims to confront issues such as child trafficking, noting the importance of protecting vulnerable populations. Finally, a core objective is to foster youth leadership and empowerment, equipping young participants with the skills and confidence to lead positive change in their environments. These diverse topics are designed to engage attendees in constructive dialogue and to develop actionable strategies for regional development and stability, ensuring a future where young people are active agents of progress.

Key Collaborators and Support

The forum is organized in collaboration with the Direction Régionale de la Population de l’Action Sociale et de Solidarité Nationale. The collaboration ensures that the forum's outcomes are aligned with regional social development objectives.

Financial support for the event has been generously provided by two international non-governmental organizations. This key backing from these esteemed organizations shows the international importance placed on the discussions concerning youth, peace, and development in the Zinder region. Their support is instrumental in enabling the forum to reach its objectives and provide a meaningful experience for all participants.

Official Opening and Regional Concerns

The forum, specifically designed for 150 young people from the region, is being held at the Lycée Professionnel Technique, a fitting venue for educational and developmental discussions. M. These concerns include the persistent issue of gender-based violence, which continues to affect many young individuals. The problem of drug consumption among youth was also noted as a serious societal challenge. Officials recognized issues such as juvenile delinquency, which can lead to broader social instability. The prevalence of school dropout rates was identified as a significant barrier to youth development and future opportunities. Finally, the threat of violent extremism was showed as a critical security and social issue requiring urgent attention.
