Niger has officially launched the "Octobre Rose" campaign to increase public awareness regarding the necessity of breast and cervical cancer screening. Health officials initiated the program as part of broader efforts to address the rising frequency of oncological diseases within the country. Medical records indicate that approximately 395 cases of female cancers were diagnosed in Niger during 2025. This data serves as the foundation for current outreach initiatives aimed at improving early detection and patient outcomes. Organizations across the nation are participating in the campaign to share information about available diagnostic resources. Local health authorities expect the initiative to reach a broad segment of the population throughout the month.
Clinique Afoua Screening Initiatives
Clinique Afoua has conducted free screenings for cervical precancerous lesions and breast cancer for the past 6 years.
As part of these efforts, the clinic organized a three-day screening caravan in Harkanassou to extend diagnostic services beyond fixed facilities.
These initiatives align with broader institutional efforts to provide environments that reduce patient anxiety.
Public outreach continues on 24 October with a painting exhibition scheduled at the Galerie Tawedu. This event serves as an additional component of the campaign to engage the community through artistic expression.
